Claus' Germany 1

After leaving Wolfram and Gisela's, we drove to Rothenberg O.B.(on the Tauber) about half an hour away.  It was a restored village in the old-town style that is very popular in Germany.

Rothenberg is another very old village that was built behind the castle's walls

It has a huge markt platz in the centre of the village

Most villages like this have a water fountain centrally located.

In the middle ages, this is where the villagers drew their water

Claus, Jenni and I have a mutual friend who lives in San Francisco.

Villages have very different roofing styles. This part of the village has the gable

 parallel with the road and only one floor within the roof space.

This part of the village has the gable at right angles to the

road and two and three floors located within the roof.

The ancient steps that lead to the top of the city wall where, no doubt,

you could pour buckets of boiling oil on anyone you didn't like.
