We is inna seoul. Trip over was good. We sat next to two perfectly behaved children who didn't scream at all.  Korean airlines provides an interesting contrast between it on one hand, and Qantas and United on the other. The staff is young and energetic and they keep the toilets scrupulously clean. The other two just put a sign on the toilet door saying that it's out of order. Qantas staff hate passengers - it spoils their day - and United staff are all old and crabby.

The cab ride in from Seoul airport was interesting. We thought he said A$90 but he reckoned he said A$190 (or €130). And that's what it cost us. We'll be looking for a bus ride back.

Seoul airport is another huge Asian airport. It makes Sydney look like a regional airport, as do most of the airports in Asia.

Then we drove over an 8 lane motorway to the outskirts of Seoul. The big surprise was Seould itself. Huge buildings everywhere and nearly all new. Even the surface streets through the city are 8 lanes. My guess is that the entire city has been built from scratch over the past 30-40 years.

When you look at Korea, it's hard to imagine that Australia's GDP is even bigger.

Now for the really bad news. I've never been to Korea before and know nothing about it. I mistakenly booked our hotel right in the middle of all the high-priced designer-label shops. Where's the Wal-mart?
